In October 2025, total government employment reached 54,976 persons, with slight increases compared to October 2024. Changes varied across service categories and employment types.
In October 2025, total government employment was 54,976 persons, representing an increase of 92 employees (0.2%) compared to October 2024.
Employment in the Civil Service and Security Forces declined by 1.0% and 1.2%, respectively, while employment in the Educational Service increased by 2.7%.
The largest increase in total employment was among employees with contracts of definite duration (2.5%), and the largest decrease was among hourly paid workers (-1.2%).
Within services, the largest percentage increase was in employees with indefinite contracts in the Educational Service (19.7%), while the largest decrease was in employees with definite contracts in the Security Forces (-71.8%), mainly due to contract non-renewals in July 2025.
For the period January–October 2025, the average total government employment increased by 0.7% compared to the same period in 2024.
Data includes Civil Service, Educational Service, and Security Forces staff, excluding members of the House of Representatives. Data is provided by the Treasury of the Republic and refers to paid employees in the current month.
