Building permits decline by 14% in January–July 2025

In January–July 2025, 4,195 building permits were issued, a 14% decrease from the previous year. The total value increased by 4.8%, and the total area grew by 7.8%. July permits totaled 796 with a value of €454.9 million.

The Statistical Service reports that during July 2025, 796 building permits were issued, with a total value of €454.9 million and a total area of 359.1 thousand square metres. These permits cover the construction of 1,512 dwelling units.

For the period January–July 2025, 4,195 permits were issued compared to 4,879 in the same period of 2024, representing a decrease of 14.0%. Despite the decline in permits, the total value increased by 4.8%, and the total area grew by 7.8%. The number of dwelling units increased by 4.6%.

Since July 1, 2024, the authority to issue building permits was transferred from municipalities and district offices to the newly established Local Government Organisations (LGOs). The permit process is now managed through the integrated information system “Ippodamos.”

Data include permits for residential, non-residential, civil engineering projects, plot divisions, and road construction, categorized according to EU standards. The statistics exclude permit renewals and permits for building divisions.
