The European Central Bank has appointed Patrick Amis, Korbinian Ibel, and Thijs van Woerden as Directors General for various banking supervision areas, effective March 1, 2026.
The European Central Bank (ECB) has appointed Patrick Amis, Korbinian Ibel, and Thijs van Woerden as Directors General for banking supervision, effective from 1 March 2026.
Patrick Amis will oversee Horizontal Line Supervision, Korbinian Ibel will lead Systemic and International Banks, and Thijs van Woerden will manage Universal and Diversified Institutions.
Korbinian Ibel will succeed Ramón Quintana, who has been Director General since 2014 and will retire in February 2026 to join Banco de España.
These appointments reflect the ECB’s focus on internal mobility and collaboration across supervision teams. The bank-specific supervision is organized into three directorates based on bank business models: systemic and international banks, universal and diversified institutions, and specialised and less significant institutions.
The ECB is also recruiting a new Director General for Specialised Institutions and Less Significant Institutions.
