The European Central Bank (ECB) has published consolidated banking data as at end-June 2025 for the EU banking system on a group consolidated basis.

The data show that the total assets of EU-headquartered credit institutions increased by 1.75%, from €32.70 trillion in June 2024 to €33.27 trillion in June 2025.

During the same period, the aggregate non-performing loans ratio remained stable at 1.96%.

EU credit institutions’ aggregate return on equity was 5.06% in June 2025, and their Common Equity Tier 1 ratio was 16.42%.

The dataset covers 337 banking groups and 2,311 stand-alone credit institutions and non-EU controlled subsidiaries and branches operating in the EU, representing nearly 100% of the EU banking sector’s balance sheet.

The data include indicators on profitability, efficiency, balance sheet composition, liquidity, funding, asset quality, asset encumbrance, capital adequacy, and solvency. Most reporters apply International Financial Reporting Standards and the European Banking Authority’s standards, with some small and medium-sized entities using national standards.

The published figures include some revisions to past data. For media inquiries, contact Benoit Deeg at +49 69 1344 95686.
