In 2024, 543,526 residents of Cyprus participated in domestic and outbound trips, showing changes in travel patterns and expenditure compared to 2023.
In 2024, a total of 543,526 residents of Cyprus participated in at least one domestic or outbound trip with an overnight stay for personal purposes. This represents a 9.1% increase compared to 2023, when 498,026 residents traveled domestically or abroad.
Participation in only domestic trips increased by 5.2%, reaching 164,590 in 2024 from 156,510 in 2023. Outbound trips only decreased by 6.6%, with 169,525 residents traveling abroad in 2024 compared to 181,428 in 2023. Additionally, 209,411 residents participated in both domestic and outbound trips, a 30.8% increase from 2023.
The number of domestic trips rose by 3.5%, from 1,564,359 in 2023 to 1,619,371 in 2024. Of these, 98.5% were for personal purposes, and 1.5% for professional reasons. Rented accommodation was used in 51.2% of domestic trips, while non-rented accommodation accounted for 48.8%.
Outbound trips increased by 4.3%, from 1,674,725 in 2023 to 1,747,492 in 2024. Most trips (86.4%) were for personal purposes, with 72.7% using rented accommodation and 27.3% using non-rented accommodation.
Expenditure on domestic trips reached €300.1 million in 2024, a 2.5% increase from 2023. The largest share was spent on accommodation (37.4%), followed by food and drinks (35.8%), transportation (9.2%), and other goods/services (17.6%).
Expenditure on outbound trips amounted to €2,070.9 million, a 6.7% increase. The main expense was transportation (34.8%), with food and drinks (24.2%), accommodation (23.6%), and other goods/services (17.4%) also contributing.
