In Jan–Aug 2025, 4,842 building permits were issued, a 4.3% decrease from the previous year, while total permit value increased by 12.3% and area by 16.1%. August 2025 permits totaled 647, with construction for 1,147 dwelling units.
The Statistical Service reports that in August 2025, 647 building permits were issued, with a total value of €252.8 million and a total area of 213,200 square meters. These permits include construction for 1,147 dwelling units.
During January–August 2025, 4,842 permits were issued, compared to 5,062 in the same period of 2024, representing a decrease of 4.3%. Despite the decline in permits, the total value increased by 12.3%, and the total area grew by 16.1%. The number of dwelling units increased by 14.6%.
The authority for issuing building permits was transferred from municipalities and district offices to the newly established District Local Government Organizations (DLGOs) starting July 1, 2024. The permit process is now managed through the integrated information system “Ippodamos.”
Data include permits for residential, non-residential, civil engineering projects, division of plots, and road construction, excluding permit renewals and demolitions. The statistics are compiled from permits issued by local authorities and processed electronically via “Ippodamos.”
