The Turnover Index of Retail Trade, except of Motor Vehicles, for January 2026 shows an increase of 7.4% in turnover value compared to January 2025 (Table 1). The turnover volume increased by 8.3% in the same period (Table 2).

The index covers activities in division 47 of the EU’s NACE Rev. 2 classification, representing retail trade excluding motor vehicles. Data are collected monthly via telephone or email by the Statistical Service.

The index uses 2021 as the base year, with an average index of 100.0. The value index is calculated at current prices, and the volume index is deflated using the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

The index is a weighted average of various retail activities, with weights derived from the 2021 wholesale and retail trade survey. It is transmitted monthly to Eurostat and published at the national level in gross form. Seasonally and calendar-adjusted data are also provided.
