In 2025, the total number of building permits issued increased by 19.5%, with a rise in total value, area, and dwelling units. December 2025 permits totaled 819, with a value of €415.4 million.
The Statistical Service announced that in December 2025, 819 building permits were issued, with a total value of €415.4 million and a total area of 328,800 square meters. These permits cover the construction of 1,770 dwelling units.
For the period January to December 2025, 8,159 permits were issued, compared to 6,827 in the same period of 2024, representing an increase of 19.5%. The total permit value increased by 37.8%, and the total area by 41.0%. The number of dwelling units increased by 42.7%.
Since July 1, 2024, the authority to issue building permits was transferred from municipalities and district offices to newly established Local Government Organizations (LGOs). The permit process is now managed through the integrated information system “Ippodamos”.
Data includes permits for residential, non-residential, civil engineering projects, plot divisions, and road construction, excluding renewals and demolitions. The statistics are compiled from permits issued by LGOs and other authorities, with data collection and processing detailed in the methodological notes.
