In February 2026, the number of building permits issued rose by 48.8% compared to the previous year, with a total of 711 permits, a value of €379.9 million, and construction of 1,708 dwelling units.
The Statistical Service announced that in February 2026, a total of 711 building permits were issued, representing a 48.8% increase compared to February 2025, when 523 permits were issued.
The total value of these permits reached €379.9 million, and the total area covered was 314,700 square metres. These permits authorized the construction of 1,708 dwelling units.
During January–February 2026, 1,500 permits were issued, compared to 1,008 in the same period of 2025, marking a 48.8% increase. The total value increased by 56.5%, and the total area by 54.9%. The number of dwelling units increased by 79.2%.
Breakdown by project type shows residential buildings accounted for 526 permits in February 2026, with a 53.4% increase year-on-year. Non-residential buildings had 62 permits, with a 77.9% increase. Civil engineering projects numbered 43 permits, a 40.6% increase. The division of plots involved 63 permits, up 54.9%. Road construction permits numbered 17.
Data includes permits for new constructions, demolitions, and re-issuances, excluding renewals and permits for division of buildings. The data collection process transitioned to electronic processing by Local Government Organizations from July 2024.
