Consumer Price Index decreases slightly in February 2026

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Cyprus declined by 0.12 points in February 2026, reaching 99.86 units, with an inflation rate of 0.1%.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Cyprus for February 2026 decreased by 0.12 points, reaching 99.86 units compared to 99.98 units in January 2026. The inflation rate for February 2026 was 0.1%.

Among economic categories, the largest positive change compared to February 2025 was in Agricultural Products (4.2%), while the largest negative change was in Electricity and Water (-9.3%). Compared to January 2026, the biggest decrease was in Electricity and Water (-2.5%).

Compared with February 2025, categories with notable changes include Clothing and Footwear (-6.8%), Restaurants and Accommodation Services (4.7%), Educational Services (3.7%), and Transport (-3.7%).

Compared to January 2026, changes were observed in Clothing and Footwear (0.8%), Recreation, Sports and Culture (-0.5%), and Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (-0.4%).

The largest positive contribution to the CPI change compared with February 2025 was from Restaurants and Accommodation Services (3.21 units), Recreation, Sports and Culture (2.70 units), and Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (1.86 units). The largest negative contributions were from Health (-2.64 units), Information and Communication (-1.60 units), and Clothing and Footwear (-1.15 units).

Month-to-month changes in February 2026 compared with January 2026 were mainly influenced by Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (-0.08 units), Clothing and Footwear (0.05 units), Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (-0.04 units), and Recreation, Sports and Culture (-0.04 units).

The positive contribution to CPI from Catering Services was 2.82 units, while Petrol contributed negatively with -2.28 units.

In comparison with January 2026, Clothing contributed positively by 0.06 units, and Vegetables negatively by -0.19 units.

The CPI is compiled to measure price changes over time of consumer goods and services acquired, used, or paid by households in Cyprus. The index covers urban districts of Lefkosia, Lemesos, Larnaka, and Pafos, with prices collected monthly for 850 goods and services.

The base year for the index is 2025=100, with the reference period being 2015=100. The CPI classification shifted from ECOICOP to ECOICOP v.2 starting January 2026, based on the Household Budget Survey 2023.
