The Deputy Minister for European Affairs of Cyprus announced the launch of the country’s first National Anti-Fraud Strategy at the 4th OLAF Expenditure Conference, emphasizing commitment to protecting EU financial interests.
The Deputy Minister for European Affairs of Cyprus welcomed participants to the 4th OLAF Expenditure Conference, held in Ammochostos, Cyprus, during the country’s EU Council Presidency.
He highlighted the significance of the conference, noting Cyprus’s role as the last divided EU member state and its commitment to European reunification and strategic autonomy.
He emphasized the importance of protecting the Union’s financial interests as part of the Union’s ability to act effectively, especially amid geopolitical shifts.
The Deputy Minister outlined Cyprus’s five overarching priorities during its Presidency: security, competitiveness, global engagement, citizen-centered values, and a long-term budget for the EU, aligning with the anti-fraud strategy objectives.
He discussed recent steps taken by Cyprus to strengthen its anti-fraud framework, including the 2024 Anti-Fraud Coordination Service (AFCOS) Law and the development of the first National Anti-Fraud Strategy for 2026–2031.
The strategy covers expenditure and revenue sectors, promotes digital tools, data use, and stakeholder cooperation, and aims to enhance governance and accountability.
The Deputy Minister formally launched Cyprus’s first National Anti-Fraud Strategy, emphasizing the importance of its implementation and practical results over the coming years.
He expressed gratitude to all authorities, stakeholders, OLAF, OECD, and the EU for their support and concluded with wishes for a successful conference.
