The Minister of Finance of Cyprus delivered a farewell speech for the Chinese Ambassador, highlighting bilateral relations, China’s global role, and appreciation for support on the Cyprus issue.
The Minister of Finance of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Makis Keravnos, delivered a farewell speech at the reception for the Chinese Ambassador to Cyprus, Mr. Liu Yantao.
He highlighted China’s remarkable transformation, economic growth, advancements in science, and leadership in technology and manufacturing, which have contributed to global progress. China is recognized as a major global power actively engaged in international governance and sustainable development.
The Minister emphasized the shared commitment of China and Cyprus to the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law. He expressed appreciation for China’s support of Cyprus sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, especially regarding efforts to resume negotiations for a lasting settlement based on the UN framework.
Despite geographical distance, bilateral relations between Cyprus and China have grown rapidly, with expanding trade and investment. The Minister expressed confidence that cooperation will further strengthen in the future.
The Minister acknowledged the ambassador’s efforts to enhance Cyprus–China relations, including constructive dialogue and personal engagement with Cyprus culture and people. He extended sincere thanks and warm wishes for the ambassador’s future endeavors, emphasizing Cyprus’s continued friendship and collaboration.
