On June 25, 2026, during the awards ceremony held in Sofia, Bulgaria, the STATRUN team from Laniteio Gymnasium of Lemesos was awarded first place in the 14–16 age category at the European Statistics Competition.

This is the first time a team from the Republic of Cyprus has won the competition.

The European phase involved 9,096 teams with 28,832 students from 22 countries. Each country’s top teams produced a two-minute video presenting a statistical portrait of their nation, using official data to illustrate national identity.

The evaluation process included two stages, with the jury selecting the top five videos in each category. The Cypriot teams performed notably well, with the STATRUN team winning first place in their category, the ANOVA team securing third place in the older age group, and the OUTLIARS team ranking among the top twelve.

The competition was co-organized by the Statistical Service, the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, the University of Cyprus, and the Cyprus Statistical Society. The organizers congratulated all participating teams for their outstanding work and representation of Cyprus.
