The European Banking Authority (EBA) has published a roadmap outlining how it will deliver its mandates under the revised Deposit Guarantee Schemes Directive (DGSD3). The roadmap details the EBA’s role in developing regulatory products to strengthen depositor protection across the EU.
The roadmap includes a timeline for delivering these products, which aim to improve depositor information, ensure faster repayment during bank failures, strengthen cooperation between deposit guarantee schemes and authorities, and enhance stress-testing frameworks. These measures will support financial stability and harmonize protection standards across the EU.
The revised DGSD3, published on 20 April 2026, introduces over 100 operational improvements based on five opinions issued by the EBA between 2019 and 2021. The EBA will develop 12 regulatory products in three batches over the next three years to support implementation.
The measures are designed to benefit EU citizens by improving depositor rights, protection, and crisis preparedness, helping to manage bank failures effectively without risking financial stability or systemic contagion.
