ECB appoints three Directors General for senior leadership roles

The European Central Bank has appointed three Directors General: Roland Straub, Christophe Kamps, and Petra Senkovic, with effective dates in 2026, to lead key departments and support ECB policy and legal functions.

The Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB) has appointed three Directors General to senior leadership roles. Roland Straub has been appointed as Director General of Monetary Policy, Christophe Kamps as Director General of International and European Relations, and Petra Senkovic as Director General of Legal Services.

The appointments of Mr. Straub and Mr. Kamps will take effect from 1 July 2026, and Ms. Senkovic will assume her role on 1 November 2026.

ECB President Christine Lagarde stated, “These three outstanding colleagues have decades of invaluable experience, and the Executive Board and I look forward to working with them as we deliver on our mandate. They will help lead the strong analysis, meticulous preparation, and flawless implementation on which our policy decisions rely.”

Roland Straub, who joined the ECB in 2006, will oversee the Directorate General Monetary Policy, responsible for preparing monetary policy meetings and analyzing options and impacts. He succeeds Massimo Rostagno, who retired. Mr. Straub previously served as Deputy Director General Market Operations and held roles at the ECB and the International Monetary Fund.

Christophe Kamps, also joining in 2005, will manage the Directorate General International and European Relations, which handles the ECB’s policy positions and international engagement. He succeeds Isabel Vansteenkiste. Mr. Kamps has held various roles including Acting Director General of Monetary Policy and co-led the ECB’s Strategy Assessment in 2025.

Petra Senkovic will lead the Directorate General Legal Services, starting on 1 November 2026. She succeeds Chiara Zilioli. Ms. Senkovic is currently Director General Secretariat and has previously headed the Secretariat to the Supervisory Board. She has a master’s in European law from the College of Europe, a PhD from Sorbonne University, and is admitted to the Paris bar.
