On Thursday, August 20, 2026, the European Central Bank (ECB) and Hessischer Rundfunk will host the Europa Open Air concert at Weseler Werft in Frankfurt. The event is free and aims to celebrate Europe’s diversity through music, culture, and community in a riverside setting.
The programme features the Frankfurt Radio Big Band, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony, Grammy Award-winning jazz singer Kurt Elling, and accordion virtuoso Richard Galliano. Additional details are available on Hessischer Rundfunk’s website.
ECB President Christine Lagarde stated, “Europa Open Air celebrates the richness of Europe’s cultural life and the connections that bring us together. Music creates a shared experience that transcends borders and reminds us of what connects us as Europeans.”
This year, the ECB will have an information stand where visitors can meet experts and learn about its work. The stand will focus on the design of future euro banknotes, displaying ten shortlisted proposals based on themes of “European culture” and “Rivers and birds.” Visitors can explore these designs, participate in a public survey, discuss proposals with ECB experts, and share their views.
