The preliminary fiscal results for January-May 2026 indicate a surplus of €552.9 million (1.4% of GDP), slightly higher than the €544.5 million surplus recorded in the same period of 2025, according to CYSTAT.
The Statistical Service of Cyprus (CYSTAT) announced the preliminary fiscal results for the general government for the period of January-May 2026. The results show a surplus of €552.9 million, which is 1.4% of GDP, compared to a surplus of €544.5 million (1.5% of GDP) in the same period of 2025.
Total revenue during January-May 2026 increased by €282.5 million (+4.8%) to €6,205.3 million from €5,922.8 million in 2025. Revenue from taxes on income and wealth increased by €115.2 million (+8.4%) to €1,488.2 million. Social contributions increased by €102.2 million (+5.2%) to €2,065.2 million. Taxes on production and imports increased by €93.1 million (+4.9%) to €1,995.7 million, with net VAT revenue rising by €138.0 million (+11.0%) to €1,389.6 million. Capital transfers increased by €26.4 million to €38.8 million, and revenue from the sale of goods and services increased by €9.4 million (+2.2%) to €433.2 million.
Property income decreased by €24.2 million (-26.1%) to €68.5 million, and current transfers decreased by €39.6 million (-25.5%) to €115.7 million.
Total expenditure increased by €274.1 million (+5.1%) to €5,652.4 million. Main components include an increase in intermediate consumption by €52.0 million (+9.7%) to €590.3 million, compensation of employees by €47.6 million (+3.0%) to €1,637.8 million, social benefits by €108.2 million (+4.9%) to €2,306.2 million, interest payable by €32.3 million (+15.7%) to €238.4 million, and current transfers by €70.5 million (+19.6%) to €429.3 million.
The capital account decreased by €26.8 million (-6.0%) to €418.7 million, with gross capital formation decreasing by €25.4 million (-7.2%) to €327.7 million. Subsidies decreased by €9.6 million (-23.2%) to €31.8 million.
It is noted that estimates for some entities, particularly the Local Government Subsector, are provisional due to incomplete data submissions.
