HICP May 2026 shows 3.5% annual increase

The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) increased by 3.5% between May 2025 and May 2026, with a 0.8% rise from April to May 2026, according to Eurostat estimates.

The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) rose by 3.5% between May 2025 and May 2026. The index increased by 0.8% from April to May 2026. The last month’s HICP in the Euro area is based on Eurostat’s flash estimate.

Compared with May 2025, the categories with the largest positive changes were Transport (9.7%) and Recreation, Sports and Culture (7.8%). The largest negative changes were observed in Clothing and Footwear (-8.5%) and Information and Communication (-2.9%).

Compared with April 2026, the categories with the largest increases were Restaurants and Accommodation Services (4.9%) and Housing, Water, Electricity, Natural Gas and Other Fuels (2.0%).

The largest change in economic categories, both compared with May 2025 and April 2026, was in Energy, with increases of 12.6% and 2.1%, respectively.
