Industrial production index increased by 4.7% in March 2026

The industrial production index rose by 4.7% in March 2026 compared to March 2025, reaching 116.7 units. The index increased by 1.5% for the period January-March 2026 compared to the previous year.

In March 2026, the Industrial Production Index reached 116.7 units (base 2021=100), recording an increase of 4.7% compared to March 2025. For the period January – March 2026, the index increased by 1.5% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The manufacturing sector registered an increase of 2.8% compared to March 2025. Increases were also observed in electricity supply (+19.0%), mining and quarrying (+9.2%), and water supply and materials recovery (+3.9%).

Significant positive changes in manufacturing compared to March 2025 were observed in basic metals and fabricated metal products (+8.5%), rubber and plastic products (+7.1%), other non-metallic mineral products (+4.5%), and food, beverages, and tobacco products (+3.5%). Negative changes were seen in machinery and transport equipment (-4.8%) and furniture, other manufacturing, and machinery repair and installation (-3.9%).

For January – March 2026 compared to the same period last year, the most significant positive changes were in water supply (+10.1%), electricity supply (+7.4%), and basic metals (+6.4%). Negative changes occurred in furniture manufacturing, machinery and transport equipment, and textiles, wearing apparel, and leather products, with declines of -6.2%, -5.4%, and -4.7%, respectively.

The index is compiled using data from sectors including mining, manufacturing, electricity, water supply, and materials recovery, based on the NACE Rev. 2 classification. The base year is 2021, with an average index of 100.0. The index reflects monthly changes compared to the 2021 average, with weights derived from the value added of each sector.

Data collection is conducted via telephone or email, with the process starting 5-10 days after the reference period and completed within a month and a half. The index is published in gross form at the national level, with seasonally and working day adjusted data also transmitted to Eurostat.
