Provisional data indicates a 2.7% increase in hourly labour costs in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same quarter in 2024, with components wages and non-wage costs rising by 2.7% and 2.9% respectively.
Based on provisional data, the labour cost index for the fourth quarter of 2025 shows an increase of 2.7% in total hourly labour costs compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
The main components, wages and salaries per hour worked and non-wage costs per hour worked, increased by 2.7% and 2.9%, respectively, compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
From the first quarter of 2025 onwards, data are provisional.
Seasonally adjusted, the total labour cost per hour increased by 0.7% compared to the previous quarter. Wages and salaries, as well as non-wage costs, also increased by 0.7% each quarter-on-quarter, seasonally adjusted.
Index data (2020=100) for the fourth quarter of 2025 show an unadjusted total labour cost of 136.68, with a 2.7% increase from the previous year. Wages and salaries reached 136.47, and non-wage costs 137.54, both with increases of 2.7% and 2.9%, respectively.
The Labour Cost Index measures changes in hourly labour costs for all economic activities except agriculture, household activities, and extraterritorial organizations. It covers employees recorded at the Social Insurance Services’ records, excluding those with gross salaries less than 50% of the minimum salary or exceeding €20,000 per month.
The index is a chain-linked Laspeyres cost index, based on 2020=100, and is available in both seasonally adjusted and non-adjusted forms. It is used to indicate inflationary pressures from labour market developments.
