Labour force survey shows unemployment at 4% in Q4 2025

The Labour Force Survey for the fourth quarter of 2025 reports an unemployment rate of 4.0%, with employment increasing and specific sector and demographic data provided.

The Labour Force Survey (LFS) for the fourth quarter of 2025 indicates an unemployment rate of 4.0%. The total labour force was 531,062 persons, representing 65.2% of the population, compared to 518,053 persons (64.3%) in the same quarter of 2024.

The employed persons numbered 509,773, with an employment rate of 62.6%. The number of employed males was 267,899 (67.1%), and females 241,874 (57.9%). The total unemployed persons were 21,289, with an unemployment rate of 4.0%, compared to 23,454 persons (4.5%) in the same quarter of 2024.

For the age group 20–64, the employment rate was 81.7%, with 86.2% for males and 77.4% for females. The employment rate for the age group 55–64 was 71.7%, up from 69.9% in the previous year.

In terms of sector distribution, 81.3% of employed persons worked in services, 16.5% in manufacturing, and 2.2% in agriculture. The share of part-time employment was 8.6%, totaling 43,703 persons, with females representing 10.4% of total employment. Among employed persons, 90.2% were employees, with 14.8% on temporary contracts.

Unemployment among persons aged 15–24 was 14.7%, up from 9.6% in the previous year. The majority of unemployed searched for less than six months, with 66.6% searching for less than six months, 15.1% for 6–11 months, and 18.3% long-term unemployed.

These results are based on the Labour Force Survey conducted quarterly in accordance with EU Regulation 2019/1700, covering private households across Cyprus. Methodological changes since 2021 have not affected comparability. The data for 2023 and 2024 have been revised based on updated population estimates.
