The Statistical Service announces the launch of the Household Budget Survey 2026, covering 4,800 households across Cyprus from February 2026 to January 2027, in accordance with EU regulations.
The Statistical Service announces the launch of the Household Budget Survey 2026. The survey is conducted in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2019/1700 of the European Parliament and of the Council, which all EU member states are obliged to implement.
The main objective of the survey is to record household consumption expenditure patterns throughout the year. The data will be used to revise the weights of the Consumer Price Index, update the household basket, and compile socio-economic indicators, as well as to study household expenditure and income levels and update private final consumption expenditure estimates in the national accounts.
The survey will be conducted on a sample basis, covering 4,800 households in urban and rural areas of Cyprus. Data collection will occur evenly over 12 months, from February 2026 to January 2027. Every 18 days, enumerators will visit approximately 240 households, ensuring accurate reflection of consumption trends and minimizing seasonal bias. Enumerators will carry official identity cards issued by the Statistical Service.
The survey is conducted in accordance with the Official Statistics Law of 2021 (Law No. 25(I)/2021). The Statistical Service is committed to maintaining confidentiality and using data solely for statistical purposes. Providing data is mandatory, and non-compliance may result in legal consequences. Results will be disseminated with safeguards for personal data protection.
