The Statistical Service reports an 11.5% rise in total motor vehicle registrations in January–July 2026, with detailed data on vehicle categories, energy types, and trends compared to the previous year.
The Statistical Service announced the publication of the report titled Registration of Motor Vehicles for the period January–July 2026.
In July 2026, total motor vehicle registrations numbered 5,420, a 3.3% increase compared to 5,246 in July 2025. Passenger saloon cars registered a rise of 2.2%, totaling 4,244 in July 2026 from 4,154 in July 2025.
During January–July 2026, total registrations increased by 11.5% to 34,787 from 31,200 in the same period of 2025. Passenger saloon cars increased to 26,841 from 24,158, an 11.1% rise, with 32.1% being new and 67.9% used cars. Rental cars declined by 11.8%.
The share of petrol-powered passenger cars decreased to 35.5% from 43.3%, diesel-powered cars to 8.0% from 8.5%, and electric cars to 4.6% from 4.8%. Hybrid cars increased from 43.3% to 51.9%.
Registrations of motor coaches and buses increased to 130 from 89, while goods conveyance vehicles rose by 12.9% to 4,074. Light goods vehicles increased by 12.1%, road tractors by 15.2%, heavy goods vehicles by 16.1%, and rental vehicles by 16.6%.
Mopeds under 50cc decreased to 100 from 143, while mechanised cycles over 50cc increased by 12.9% to 3,167.
Data are collected monthly by the Statistical Service from the Department of Road Transport, covering vehicle categories, make, energy type, and other characteristics. The report is available free online, with detailed tables and data accessible via the CYSTAT portal and online database.
