PASIN opposes the Health Insurance Organisation’s plan to remove specialized DRGs without prior consultation, citing impact on hospital viability and patient care.
The Pancyprian Association of Private Hospitals (PASIN) has expressed strong protest against the Health Insurance Organisation’s (HIO) recent notification regarding the intention to remove a large number of specialized Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs) from the existing list.
PASIN criticizes the lack of prior consultation and documented impact assessment, emphasizing that such unilateral actions threaten the financial stability of private hospitals and their ability to provide specialized inpatient care.
Private hospitals have made significant investments based on current frameworks, including facilities, equipment, staff, and services. Changes without consultation could undermine these investments and affect hospital sustainability, as private hospitals operate solely with their own resources.
The association highlights that the removal of specialized DRGs does not address the underlying issues and risks compromising patient safety by reducing access to highly specialized services provided by qualified hospitals and professionals.
PASIN demands the immediate withdrawal of the HIO’s plan, the preservation of the current list of specialized DRGs, and the initiation of a formal, comprehensive consultation process to define the DRGs and identify capable hospitals that can handle them safely.
PASIN is coordinating with its members to consider response measures, engage with institutional bodies, and publicly emphasize the importance of maintaining hospital operation and patient safety. The association remains open to dialogue but opposes sudden, unilateral decisions that threaten the health sector and hospital viability.
