Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides spoke at the Employers and Industrialists Federation annual meeting, highlighting cooperation, economic reforms, European integration, and future development strategies.
The President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, participated in the annual General Assembly of the Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB). He expressed gratitude for the cooperation and contributions to the Cypriot economy.
He highlighted recent European-level discussions, including the Summit in Brussels and negotiations on the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2028-2034. The focus is on strengthening the EU’s competitiveness through investments in innovation, technology, infrastructure, and energy autonomy.
The President emphasized the importance of reforms, simplifying regulations, and accelerating decision-making processes. Cyprus is leading negotiations on the MFF, aiming for a political agreement by the end of 2026, with specific actions organized into five strategic pillars: simplifying rules, deepening the single market, strengthening trade policy, reducing energy costs, and digital transformation.
He discussed the significance of the EU’s strategic autonomy, the progress on defense and security initiatives, and the importance of removing fragmentation in the Single Market by 2027. Cyprus’s role as a bridge between the EU and the Middle East, India, and the Gulf was also highlighted.
Internally, the President underscored Cyprus’s strong economic performance, including a surplus of 2.6%, debt reduction to below 50% of GDP, and a growth rate of 3.8% for 2025. The country’s international bond issuance in early 2026 demonstrated investor confidence.
He outlined ongoing reforms in taxation, energy, education, and digital services, aiming to create a faster, more predictable, and business-friendly state. The government’s targeted measures, including a €200 million support package, aim to sustain economic stability and growth.
The President also announced upcoming international missions to attract investments, including visits to India, Kazakhstan, and the United States. Cyprus’s active role in shaping EU policies and its commitment to a more flexible, competitive economy were reaffirmed.
He concluded by emphasizing the importance of partnership with the business community to achieve sustainable development and prosperity for Cyprus.
