Quarterly national accounts show 3.3% GDP growth in second quarter 2026

The second quarter of 2026 recorded a 3.3% real GDP growth in Cyprus, driven mainly by wholesale and retail trade, information and communication, financial activities, and construction sectors.

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in real terms, seasonally adjusted, increased by 3.3% in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same quarter of 2025.

This positive growth is primarily attributed to sectors such as Wholesale and Retail Trade, Repair of Motor Vehicles, Information and Communication, Financial and Insurance Activities, and Construction.

Table 1 presents the GDP in real terms by economic activity, with the total GDP amounting to €7,872.1 million in Q2 2026. The table also shows the percentage change compared to Q2 2025 and Q1 2026 for each sector.

Table 2 details the expenditure approach, indicating that final consumption expenditure was €6,083.1 million, with household and NPISH consumption at 4.75%, and gross fixed capital formation at €1,746.2 million, representing a 9.4% increase from the previous year.

The methodology used for these estimates involves an indirect approach based on short-term indicators, with data sources including economic indicators, administrative data, employment figures, and price indices. The estimates are produced in accordance with ESA 2010 standards and transmitted to Eurostat.
