The number of registered unemployed persons in Cyprus reached 12,385 at the end of August 2026, up from previous months and compared to August 2025, with notable increases in certain sectors.
The number of registered unemployed persons in Cyprus, registered at District Labour Offices on the last day of August 2026, was 12,385. Seasonally adjusted data shows an increase to 10,671 in August 2026 from 10,563 in July 2026.
Compared to August 2025, the registered unemployed increased by 829 persons, or 7.2%. The sectors with the most significant increases include public administration, education, administrative and support services, and information and communication.
Table 1 provides actual and seasonally adjusted data for the months from 2024 to 2026. Table 2 details unemployment figures by economic activity based on the NACE Rev. 2 classification for August 2025, July 2026, and August 2026.
The methodology for calculating registered unemployment involves individuals aged 15 and over who actively seek employment and register at Labour Offices. The data excludes self-employed persons, part-time job seekers, and those seeking employment in specific areas or for certain employers.
Seasonal adjustment is performed using the JDemetra+ 2.2.2 software with the TRAMO&SEATS algorithm, which may revise previous estimates when new data is added. Changes in registration procedures since June 2021 may affect data comparability.
