Registration of motor vehicles for 2025 shows 5.8% increase

The Statistical Service reports a 5.8% rise in total motor vehicle registrations for January-December 2025, with notable increases in passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and motor coaches compared to 2024.

The Statistical Service announced the publication of the report titled “Registration of Motor Vehicles” for the period January-December 2025.

In December 2025, total motor vehicle registrations numbered 3,604, a 27.1% increase from 2,836 in December 2024. Passenger saloon cars registered 2,801, up 36.6% from 2,050 in December 2024, with 14,633 (35.9%) being new and 26,145 (64.1%) used cars. Rental cars increased by 32.4% to 5,169.

During January-December 2025, total registrations increased by 5.8% to 52,508 from 49,616 in the same period of 2024.

Passenger saloon cars rose to 40,778 from 38,410, a 6.2% increase. The share of petrol-powered cars decreased to 42.0% from 48.6%, diesel-powered cars to 8.9% from 10.3%, while electric cars increased from 4.0% to 4.7%, and hybrid cars from 37.1% to 44.3%.

Motor coaches and buses increased to 181 from 133. Registrations of goods conveyance vehicles rose by 6.8% to 6,208, with rental vehicles up 23.8% to 291, light goods vehicles up 6.9% to 4,959, road tractors to 251, and heavy goods vehicles to 707.

Mopeds under 50cc decreased to 213 from 690, while mechanised cycles over 50cc increased by 14.5% to 4,467. Tractors registered 303, a 66.7% decrease.

The main vehicle manufacturers in Cyprus during 2025 were Japan (44.1%), Germany (13.0%), France (7.0%), the UK (6.0%), and South Korea (3.9%).

The most popular vehicle color was white (34.4%), followed by grey (19.5%), black (15.6%), blue (8.8%), and silver (8.7%).
