Registration of motor vehicles January–October 2025

The Statistical Service reports a 4.2% increase in total motor vehicle registrations from January to October 2025, with notable growth in passenger cars, buses, and goods vehicles compared to 2024.

The Statistical Service announced the publication of the report titled “Registration of Motor Vehicles” for the period January–October 2025.

In October 2025, total motor vehicle registrations numbered 4,520, a 9.9% increase compared to 4,111 in October 2024. Passenger saloon cars registered 3,457, an 11.7% rise from 3,096 in October 2024.

During January–October 2025, total registrations increased by 4.2% to 44,732 from 42,930 in the same period of 2024.

Passenger saloon cars increased to 34,782 from 33,440, a 4.0% rise. Of these, 37.2% were new and 62.8% used. Rental cars grew by 33.8% to 4,866.

The share of petrol-powered passenger cars decreased from 49.5% in 2024 to 42.5% in 2025, while diesel cars declined from 10.0% to 8.6%. Electric cars increased from 3.8% to 4.8%, and hybrid cars from 36.7% to 44.1%.

Motor coaches and buses registered 167 units, up from 125. Goods conveyance vehicles increased by 6.6% to 5,142, including rental vehicles (+23.3%), light goods (+6.6%), and heavy goods (+3.1%). Road tractors remained at 199 units.

Mopeds under 50cc decreased to 190 from 627, while mechanised cycles over 50cc increased by 17.0% to 3,916 units.

Other vehicle categories showed varied changes, with total registrations up by 4.2% compared to the previous year.

Data collection is conducted by the Statistical Service based on information from the Department of Road Transport. The report is published monthly since 1982 and is available free online.
