The 2024 industrial production survey shows a 3.3% increase in industry value added and slight employment growth, with mixed changes across sectors. Data covers the first half of 2024.
The Survey on Industrial Production 2024 reports a 3.3% increase in value added at current prices in the industrial sector, reaching €2,321.3 million compared to €2,246.2 million in 2023.
Employment in the broad industrial sector increased by 0.5% to 42,800 persons in 2024, from 42,600 in 2023. Employment in manufacturing reached 38,000, with smaller increases in mining and quarrying, electricity supply, and water supply, sewerage, and waste management.
Production value at current prices rose by 0.1% to €6,951.4 million in 2024. Manufacturing production increased by 3.6% to €5,021.6 million, while electricity supply decreased by 3.8%, water supply, sewerage, and waste management decreased by 15.5%, and mining and quarrying decreased by 20.2%.
Value added in manufacturing increased by 6.8% to €1,754.7 million, in electricity supply by 1.9% to €362.7 million, while it decreased in water supply, sewerage, and waste management by 19.5% to €160.6 million, and in mining and quarrying by 9.3% to €43.3 million.
Data covers the period up to June 30, 2024, with the Water and Sewerage Boards now integrated into local government organizations as part of administrative reforms. The survey covers around 1,460 enterprises classified under sections B, C, D, and E of NACE Rev. 2.
