The Turnover Index of Retail Trade, except of Motor Vehicles, for August 2026 shows an increase of 9.3% in turnover value and 7.0% in volume compared to August 2025.

The index covers activities in division 47 of the EU’s NACE Rev. 2 classification, measuring short-term developments in retail trade.

The data is collected monthly via telephone or email and is based on 2021 as the base year, with an index value of 100 representing average monthly turnover of that year.

The Turnover Value Index is calculated at current prices, while the Volume Index is derived by deflating the value index using the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

The index is a weighted average of various retail activities, with weights based on the 2021 annual wholesale and retail trade survey.

The data is transmitted monthly to Eurostat and published at the national level in its gross form. More information is available on the CYSTAT portal and related links.
