The Turnover Index of Retail Trade, excluding motor vehicles, for March 2026 shows an increase of 7.8% in value and 5.8% in volume compared to March 2025.

The index covers activities in division 47 of the EU’s NACE Rev. 2 classification. It measures total invoiced amounts, excluding VAT but including other taxes and duties.

Data collection is conducted monthly via telephone or email by the Statistical Service. The index uses 2021 as the base year, with an average index of 100.0 for that year.

The Value Index is calculated at current prices, while the Volume Index is derived by deflating the Value Index using the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The index is a weighted average based on the share of each activity in total retail trade turnover, as per the 2021 survey results.

The index is transmitted monthly to Eurostat, including seasonally and calendar-adjusted data. It is published at the national level in its gross form. More information is available on the CYSTAT portal and online databases.
