State employees increased slightly in March 2026

In March 2026, the total number of state employees reached 55,367, a 0.1% increase compared to March 2025, with variations across categories and services.

In March 2026, the total number of state employees was 55,367, representing an increase of 42 employees (0.1%) compared to March 2025.

Employment in the Civil Service and Security Forces declined by 0.8% and 0.7%, respectively, while employment in the Educational Service increased by 1.8%.

The largest increase in total employment was observed in employees with contracts of indefinite duration (1.7%), while the largest decrease was in employees with contracts of definite duration (-2.0%).

Within services, the largest percentage increase was in employees with indefinite contracts in the Educational Service (24.9%), and the largest decrease was in employees with definite contracts in the Security Forces (-85.9%), mainly due to contract non-renewals in July 2025.

From January to March 2026, the average total number of state employees increased by 0.2% compared to the same period in 2025.

Data includes employees of the Civil Service, Educational Service, and Security Forces, excluding members of the House of Representatives. Data is provided by the Treasury of the Republic of Cyprus and refers to paid employees in the current month.

Note that as of January 2024, the classification was revised, and data from previous months are not comparable.
