State employees increased to 55,162 in June 2026

In June 2026, the total number of state employees was 55,162, representing an increase of 333 employees (0.6%) compared to June 2025.

Employment declined in the Civil Service by 1.2% and in the Security Forces by 0.1%, while it increased in the Educational Service by 3.5%.

The largest percentage increase was observed in employees with contracts of indefinite duration in the Educational Service (24.7%). The largest percentage decrease was in employees with contracts of definite duration in the Security Forces (-99.6%), mainly due to the non-renewal of specific contracts in July 2025.

Compared to the first half of 2025, the average total number of state employees increased by 0.2% during January–June 2026.

Details by category include:

• Civil Service: 23,096 employees in June 2026, down 1.2% from June 2025.
• Educational Service: 18,335 employees, up 3.5%.
• Security Forces: 13,731 employees, down 0.1%.

Data collection is based on payments made in the current month, and a methodological change in January 2024 caused a break in series comparability.
