An independent study commissioned by the Ministry of Health confirms that Cyprus needs approximately 600 additional nurses immediately. This need has been documented for two years by the Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) and is increasing rapidly, intensifying pressures on patients and healthcare quality.
The government and parliament are urged to resolve this long-standing issue without further delay. While incentives to attract nursing students are helpful, they will take 4-5 years to produce results, which does not address current urgent needs.
OEB has submitted proposals for immediate action. The findings of Dr. Yfantopoulos’ study eliminate any justification for delaying effective solutions. Immediate decisions and actions are expected to address the crisis.
